World Environment Day

Since 1974, over 143 countries of the world come together under the auspice of the United Nations yearly on June 5 to celebrate World Environment Day. World Environment Day (WED) is the most renowned day for engaging everyone including governments, businesses and private citizens to focus their efforts on pressing environmental issues and encouraging awareness as well as action for the protection of the environment.

The theme for this WED 2020 is 'Biodiversity'.

Biodiversity is the variety of life – animals, plants and microorganisms on earth. This variety of species, genes and organisms work together to ensure the balance required to support life on Earth is provided.

Should You Be Concerned About Biodiversity?

Everything necessary for and crucial to our survival on Earth is dependent on Biodiversity. Food, water, oxygen, medicine and even shelter depends on the balance that a healthy biodiversity provides. The ecosystem in which we live and extract our source of livelihood is essential to our health and that of other species, quality of life, and survival. It is therefore our collective responsibility to take care of the environment, not just because we like the environment but also because our existence and survival on Earth is threatened unless we take active steps.

Ampak Nigeria Limited joins the rest of the world to celebrate WED 2020 by raising awareness about biodiversity and its importance to human, plant and animal life on Earth. To this end, we are inviting you to a Webinar on ‘Biodiversity: Our Unending Relationship with Nature’. During this Webinar, we will have a discussion on what biodiversity is, why it matters to us and what can be done to preserve a balanced and healthy biodiversity.

Date: Monday, 8 June, 2020. Time: 13:00 WAT

With everything happening in the world, nature may just be sending us a message that caring for nature is the same thing as caring for ourselves. We have just one planet, it is indeed #TimeforNature and together, we can act #ForNature
